What is topical Hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a versatile molecule in terms of skin physiology; It is an incredibly “water loving” molecule, which revitalises and deeply hydrates the skin. Hyaluronic acid draws water into the skin increasing hydration and has been shown to initiate collagen synthesis and restore volume in areas of the face where it has been lost through the ageing process. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that is found in the body, and is therefore a great topical ingredient for all skin types, including sensitive and problem skin.

Loss of hyaluronic acid as we age is a key contributor in the decrease of skin plumpness and hydration. Well formulated cosmeceuticals contain absorbable forms of hyaluronic acid, such as sodium hyaluronate, which can penetrate into the dermal layers on application so the skin draws in more water; replenishing lost volume, increasing hydration and helping improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles. To reverse lines and wrinkles, ingredients such as retinoids are needed as part of a skincare routine, as increasing hydration does not reverse the ageing process in the skin but will improve the appearance and radiance.

What treatment is needed for deep lines and wrinkles?
